Passenger Carina J. Castro Perez, 25, of Westbury, was killed around 8:44 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, east of Exit 26N in the town of North Hempstead, said New York State Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the collision occurred when a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle traveling eastbound in the left lane, lost control and struck the center median, he said.

The impact caused the ejection of both riders. Perez was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset where she was pronounced dead.

The driver, Jose U. Diaz Cruz, 26, also of Westbury, was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Currently, there are no criminal charges.

The New York State Police is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this incident contact State Police Farmingdale at 631-756-3300. All calls will remain confidential.
